As successful entrepreneurs, our advisory board provides a unique perspective in their various areas of expertise. This board serves in an advisory capacity to help connect entrepreneurs to the various economic and entrepreneurial development opportunities and resources within our community.

Debra McCartt

Some of Debra McCartt’s earlier careers include working for Toot’n Totum as benefits manager, KACV  at Amarillo College to be the promoter  for Sesame Street, and later became the child care director for Amarillo College.

Later Debra became the marketing director for Cellular One, Patient Advocate for Northwest Texas Hospital, Administrative Assistant for Physicians Surgical Hospital, and Public Relations officer for Texas Tech School of Medicine. Currently Debra McCartt is working at B&W Pantex as their Government Relations Officer.

Over the years, Debra has served on many non profit boards. It was through her board work with the Economic Development Corporation that Debra has come to appreciate the importance of a strong community and it’s economic growth. Over the last ten years, Debra served on the Amarillo City Commission and then as the Mayor of Amarillo.

Johnny Mize

Johnny Mize

Johnny has 25 years of experience working and consulting with executives of Fortune 500 corporations, Insurance Companies, Third Party Claim Administrators, Insurance Brokers and Governmental Entities. Johnny served as President and CEO of Corporate Systems for twelve successful years until the purchase of the company by Marsh in 2005. Mr. Mize speaks at professional seminars and management conferences on the subjects of Risk Cost Control, Medical Cost Management, and Strategies for Reducing Claim Administration and Loss Cost. Johnny holds a BBA in Finance from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Johnny has served on the Chamber of Commerce Board and he also taught an Entrepreneurship Class for Amarillo College.  Johnny is a currently a member of Young Presidents Organization and serves on the Willborn Brothers board.  He gives to his community by serving on Boards of United Way of Amarillo & Canyon, Chamber of Commerce, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, andFirstNazareneChurch.

Mark Marrs is Sr. Vice President in the Commercial Lending department of Interstate Bank, ssb, located at 5085 S. Coulter, in Amarillo.  Mark’s primary responsibilities include origination and servicing of all types of commercial real estate and small-business loans, including the utilization of the U.S. Small Business Administration, and other government guaranty programs, when applicable.  He is a 1994 graduate of West Texas A&M University, with a BS in Agriculture Business and Economics.  Mark has been a lender and community banker for the past 15 years and has enjoyed living and working in the Amarillo market for the past seven years.  He has served on the EnterPrize Challenge selection committee as well as the board of directors for the Texas Panhandle Regional Development Corporation.

Brad Martin is the President of W. B. Martin and Associates, Inc. and the Chairman of Scottco Mechanical Contractors, Inc. Brad is an active consultant in the areas of mechanical engineering and business strategy. He is a 1977 graduate of the Texas Tech School of Engineering and is a 2011 MBA graduate of the Jerry S. Rawls School of Business at Texas Tech University. He is a past chairman and currently serves of the Board of the Amarillo EDC, the Amarillo YP Executive Advisory Board, Amarillo Executive Association and he is an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Nexstar Network, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has been active in the Amarillo community for over 20 years.

Chris has obtained a number of accomplishments as well as staying involved in the community.

Mark Wingate is a third-generation entrepreneur presently working in his fourth startup, Maxi Volt Corporation (MVC). MVC is an electronics manufacturing company doing business worldwide. Mark has served on several entrepreneurial development committees. Presently, he serves on a national level as a founding member with the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and EAC (Entrepreneurial Activity Committee).

Dr. Terry joined the College of Business in 1997.  He received a B.A. in economics from California State University at Sacramento in 1992, a M.A. in economics from Texas Tech University in 1996 and a Ph.D. in economics from Texas Tech University in 1997.  His post-doctoral training includes completion of the M.D.P. program at Harvard University in 2006.

Normally, Coco Duckworth would much rather talk about you than herself, but here’s some background info. In 2004, she founded Encourage Consulting, an executive coaching and training firm based in Amarillo. She was educated at Texas Tech in mass communications, founded an advertising agency, and enjoyed a 25-year career in advertising, public relations, sales, and marketing.

A passion for business and a gift for listening fueled and sharpened her passion for coaching. She specializes in helping business leaders and entrepreneurs go further and faster in their careers, with an emphasis on retaining a harmonious home and work life.

Coco is a member of the International Coach Federation. She serves on the board of directors for the 100 Club of Amarillo and attends Trinity Fellowship Church.
